The Caring Mile
In contemporary cities, where children are discouraged from moving freely, being outdoors and therefore increasingly detached from their natural surroundings, The Caring Mile aims to create a new ground floor where urban children can reconnect with nature. The project adopts the Butterfly Mile – a collaborative pact to regenerate Corso Lodi and its biodiversity – and gives it to children. Through the redesign of the mile and the increase of vegetation, an environment is created in which children can move freely, care for it and learn. A sequence of spaces along the path facilitates their interaction and experience, guiding and stimulating the inquiry and exploration of other inhabitants. The Caring Mile allows nature and children to take ownership of the environment, leaving room for contamination.
